During the re-structuring of its production facilities, Homes was keen to move its HOMAG POWERLINE production line – a line designed for the edgebanding and boring of bedroom furniture components. The complete production line needed to be moved quickly and during the summer shut-down to eliminate the possibility of downtime. At the same time, the company needed to find a solution that would optimise its production processes and increase performance.

Due to the company’s production methods changing over time, Homes’ existing production line was situated in a way that limited performance and caused a range of logistical challenges. As well as overseeing the dismantling, moving, installation and final inspection of the line, Ferwood also modified the company’s production-cycle, dividing the line into two separate areas: one for boring and the other for edgebanding. This allowed the line to offer higher levels of production flexibility, something specified by the customer, whilst increasing overall production capacity. The changes allowed the company to go from processing approximately 4,000 panels per shift to 8,000. It is thanks to these changes that the customer has been able to boost production capabilities and increase efficiency. It has also improved the quality of the finished product thanks to the adjustments and maintenance operations carried out by Ferwood's specialist technical engineers.
